Weekend revels

Skagit Valley tulips photo and sketch by Chandler O'Leary

I took a rare day off on Friday, to get out of the studio and gather some inspiration in the…um..field.

My trip turned into a mini-adventure,

full of Washington wonders.

Catching the moonrise on my way home was an extra-special bonus, because it reminded me to set an alarm—

Where did you go for the tulips? I just went to a place south of Portland but next year I will live in Seattle or Tacoma and would love to know there is a place closer!

Megan, the Tulip Festival is up in the Skagit Valley, just under 2 hours north of Tacoma and a little over an hour north of Seattle. I’ve heard of the one near Portland, but I think the Skagit Valley one is bigger. The fields change every year (crop rotation), so it’s really a different experience from year to year. I’ve gone every year I’ve lived here but one, and I think it’s totally worth it—especially since it’s very close to some other amazing places, like Whidbey Island and the San Juans. You can see my posts of tulip festivals past here.
