Description
A hazy Mount Rainier rises behind the iconic P-I Globe in Seattle, Washington. The giant, rotating neon Globe sign dominates the composition—a symbol of Seattle’s landscape that is nearly as famous as the mountain in the background. In the face of a difficult economy, the Post-Intelligencer, one of two major Seattle newspapers, recently transitioned to an online-only format. The “P-I” is Seattle’s oldest business, and was in print for 146 years before its presses shut down in 2009.
This 9 x 12 print is a reproduction of the original letterpress piece from “Local Conditions,” a series depicting Washington’s Mt. Rainier from a variety of different vantage points. (You can read more about the project here.) There are 15 different designs in the series; you can find all available prints here.
The original artwork was letterpress printed by hand on an antique Vandercook No. 4 press and then hand-painted with watercolor.
Paper size is 12 x 9.
