Description
In this illustration, Mt. Rainier towers over the hillsides and rooftops of Tacoma, Washington, while Commencement Bay on Puget Sound shines a brilliant blue to mirror the sky. Tacoma has an excellent and very large collection of Craftsman-style homes, thanks to a building boom from 1919 to 1929. The result is an astonishing array of beautiful and well-preserved historic architecture that is an icon not just of Tacoma but the entire Pacific Northwest.
This 9 x 12 print is a reproduction of the original letterpress piece from “Local Conditions,” a series depicting Washington’s Mt. Rainier from a variety of different vantage points. (You can read more about the project here.) There are 15 different designs in the series; you can find all available prints here.
The original artwork was letterpress printed by hand on an antique Vandercook No. 4 press and then hand-painted with watercolor.
Paper size is 12 x 9.
