Description
This print was created from sketches done on location: from the shore of Tipsoo Lake, located near Chinook Pass on the eastern edge of Mt. Rainier National Park. The print captures the phenomenon known as “alpenglow,” when the face of the mountain glows a bright, stunning pink as the sun’s first rays hit the alpine snow. Alpenglow only lasts for a brief moment—a reminder to pay attention!
This 9 x 12 print is a reproduction of the original letterpress piece from “Local Conditions,” a series depicting Washington’s Mt. Rainier from a variety of different vantage points. (You can read more about the project here.) There are 15 different designs in the series; you can find all available prints here.
The original artwork was letterpress printed by hand on an antique Vandercook No. 4 press and then hand-painted with watercolor.
Paper size is 12 x 9.
