Description
In this piece, Mt. Rainier rises from behind a pair of abandoned barns near Eatonville, Washington. The river valleys in Western Washington are dotted with small farms, as the rich volcanic soil is excellent for growing vegetables, hops and flowers. Yet as the urban, suburban and industrial areas along Puget Sound expand, many of the region’s farms are threatened by encroaching development. Nevertheless, those farms that remain create pockets of idyllic beauty at the base of our most iconic mountain.
This 9 x 12 print is a reproduction of the original letterpress piece from “Local Conditions,” a series depicting Washington’s Mt. Rainier from a variety of different vantage points. (You can read more about the project here.) There are 15 different designs in the series; you can find all available prints here.
The original artwork was letterpress printed by hand on an antique Vandercook No. 4 press and then hand-painted with watercolor.
Paper size is 12 x 9.
