A hand-lettered floral illustration of a purple prickly pear cactus in bloom! This archival giclee reproduction print is part of the ongoing Succulent! series—look for more collectible prints to be added to the shop soon. This illustration is inspired by my sketches of cactus blooms in Big Bend National Park, located in the Chihuahuan Desert of southwest Texas. (You can see those sketches on the blog.) The prickly pear, also known as nopales and paddle cactus, are native to the deserts of Mexico and the American Southwest. In addition to their edible fruit, prickly pear cacti are renowned for their unique shape and spectacularly colored flowers.
The print is a museum-quality inkjet reproduction, using Epson HDR Ultrachrome archival inks on heavy 100% rag (cotton) Moab Entrada natural white paper. Each print is signed and dated in pencil, but not numbered. Available in two sizes: 9 x 12 inches (22.8 x 30.4 cm) and 11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.6 cm)
